![]() ![]() I can now read Harry Potter within Chrome and look words up using Mate Translate without switching to a different window. I changed my recommendation because Mate Translate supports pdf files. But I actually have Mate Translate, Rememberry and XTRANSLATE in my Chrome browser. And it looks a lot better than the other translator extensions.įollowing the recommendation of u/chernikovalexey, I tried out Mate Translate and will have to change my recommendation to Mate Translate. It has a ton of features and allows users to use not only Google Translate but also Yandex and Bing. If like me you need a translator to read web resources, I recommend XTRANSLATE. Fortunately, I discovered a new extension that is free and actually a lot more powerful than the Google Translate extension. My conclusion is that there is no way to fix the Google Translate extension because Google has probably chosen to sabotage it. The extra number of steps makes it a lot more painful to use Google Translate.įrustrated, I embarked on a search for a fix. What I found most frustrating is that it will sometimes stop showing the popup that gives the definitions of words and thus forcing the user to right click on the selected text, choose Google Translate and then have the translation appear in a new tab or window. Since then the Google Translate extension will work sometimes but not always. Back in 2019 Google announced that they would stop supporting the Google Translate extension. What I needed most was to get quick definitions of words as I read a sentence. I was using Google Translate to read German news articles and it met my requirements when it worked.
